In the spirit of Dr. Betty van der Smissen’s love for energetic debate, Reb Gregg and Jim Moss, two of her esteemed colleagues, will present selected legal issues in outdoor recreation in a lively, entertaining, and educational format.
Beginning in 1955, Dr. Betty van der Smissen's career in higher education defined her professional life, as she integrated teaching, research, service, and mentoring of both faculty and students until the final days of her life. Her expertise in risk management and legal liability made her one of the foremost authorities in the country, and she cherished working with her law colleagues and loved debating the issues of the day.
About the Presenter
Reb Gregg of Houston, Texas, is a leading attorney, lecturer, and writer in legal liability issues for adventure, education, and recreation-based outdoor programs. He has served on numerous governance and advisory boards and as general counsel, including 30 years with the National Outdoor Leadership School.
Jim Moss of Denver, Colorado, is an attorney, professor, speaker, writer, and expert witness specializing in outdoor recreation law. He represents a variety of industry organizations and over 100 college and university programs across the United States and Mexico.
